NOW OFFERING ONLINE LESSONS!

WHAT I OFFER //

WHAT I EXPECT //

I offer one on one tuition in both piano and voice. Lesson lengths vary from 30 mins to 1 hour, and each lesson is tailored to the students individual needs & goals.
I work to equip my students with a solid theoretical understanding of music & technical understanding of their instrument, whilst learning repertoire that inspires and engages them. I specialise in contemporary music styles, and have a particular passion for working with primary aged students.

I am a professional member of the Queensland Music Teachers' Association (QMTA), the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS), and have experience guiding
students through AMEB and ANZCA exams.

Most of all, I love to teach! I hope to share the joy I experience through music with all of my students. I work hard to ensure that while we are laying great technical groundwork and making continued progress on their chosen instrument, we are also having a lot of fun! I teach students of all ages & backgrounds, and I firmly believe that music is to be shared with anyone and everyone who wants to learn.

When it comes to making progress on your chosen instrument, commitment to your learning is key. I believe that this commitment involves both lessons, and practising in your own time at home.

It is expected that you will commit to a reasonable amount of practice in your own time at home - expectations for this will vary depending on age, ability & desired outcome. I will discuss these expectations with and tailor them to suit each student individually.

Whilst I’m invested in helping you to be actively learning about music, and making progress on your chosen instrument, I also want you to enjoy yourself! I will provide a safe, secure & nurturing learning environment and I hope to share my love of music with you. Thank you for choosing LM Studio to help you along your musical journey - can’t wait to get started!

FAQs

FAQs //

SO HOW DO ONLINE LESSONS WORK? //

Step 1: Create an account & login

Step 2: Choose your instrument (piano or singing) and your preferred lesson duration

Step 3: Choose a suitable time for a lesson, and submit your booking enquiry. You will not receive an immediate confirmation as I will manually confirm each booking. If the time you have asked for is not possible, I will let you know and provide alternate time options. Feel free to include other lesson time preferences in your booking form.

Step 4: Once your booking is confirmed, you will be emailed a link to use to join the lesson. Lessons will be conducted on the Zoom platform, unless requested otherwise.

Step 5: Happy learning!

HOW DO I SET MYSELF UP FOR ONLINE LESSONS? //

Online lessons require a few things to make them as successful as they can be:

  • A computer, iPad, tablet or Phone with a built in camera, or a webcam attached

  • A reliable internet connection

  • A relatively quite place with limited distractions

  • Headphones with a microphone (like those supplied with most phones) or headphones and a laptop or tablet with a built in microphone

  • Piano students will require a piano to play on! Ideally, this would be a full size acoustic or electric piano with weighted keys - however, I want you to be able to learn to play whatever piano or keyboard you have on hand, and this is not essential in the beginning.

  • Singing students will require a separate device, other than the one used to connect to Zoom, to play tracks. A small speaker is recommended, if available to use.

  • Piano students will need to ensure that their camera is set up so that I can see their hands whilst they are playing. A side on view is helpful.

  • Singing students will need to ensure that their camera is set up front on, and that they are not looking down or up at the camera

  • Some younger students may benefit from having adult supervision during their lesson time

HOW MANY LESSONS DO I HAVE TO COMMIT TO? //

All new students will be given an initial, no obligation trial lesson. If you're keen to keep at it after this initial lesson, there are 2 options available:

PER TERM

Highly recommended for children & teens, lessons will be conducted in 10-week blocks (coinciding with the QLD school terms). 2020 term dates are listed below for your reference.

Term 1: Tuesday 28 January - Friday 3 April 2020

Term 2: Monday 20 April - Friday 26 June 2020

Term 3: Monday 13 July - Friday 18 September 2020

Term 4: Tuesday 6 October - Friday 11 December 2020

Adults who wish to make a long-term commitment to lessons are more than welcome to pay per term, and can choose to spread lessons out over 12 weeks (the school term, plus the two weeks immediately following the conclusion of the school term)

CASUAL LESSONS

If you want to "top up" your skills, or feel that you are unable to commit to a regular lesson time, you can choose to book in for one-off sessions as you are able. This is not generally recommended for younger, school aged students, as progress can be difficult to make without regular lessons.

WHAT ABOUT PAYMENT? //

Once your first (trial) lesson is confirmed on my end, you will be sent an invoice via email. Final confirmation of your lesson comes after the payment of this invoice. Proof of payment must be provided via email BEFORE the lesson, or no lesson will be provided.

PAYING PER TERM

Prior to the commencement of each term, an invoice will be sent, and payment will be due by the first lesson of each term. Please advise via email when payment has been made. Once payment has been made, you can access the online booking system to arrange your 10 lessons. If you would like to reserve the same time slot every week, just submit a single booking form for the day and time you would like, and make note in the form that you wish the time to be recurring - I will input the rest of the lessons for you.

PAYING FOR CASUAL LESSONS

All casual lessons must be paid for a minimum of 24 hours BEFORE the lesson, and proof of payment provided via email, or no lesson will be provided.

Unless prior arrangements are made, Bank transfer is the preferred payment method

Please refer to your invoice for bank account details.

WHAT ABOUT BOOKS AND RESOURCES? //

It's a big world of method books out there, and I understand that it can be hard to choose a book that suits you. Before commencing lessons, we'll have a chat about what book will work for you specifically, but the list below will give you an idea of the method books & apps/resources typically used by my students - click each link for more information.

WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED TO CANCEL A LESSON? //

Refer to the handy little document on the left here - this outlines my cancellation policy. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer - just give me an email or a phone call!
