"Her sound is at once fresh and new, whilst also transporting the listener back in time..."
- Sarah Collyer, I Heart Songwriting Club reviewer
Guaranteed to get stuck in your head, Laura Mulcahy’s music sits in the sweet spot between old‑school soul and heartfelt piano‑driven songwriting—with a little gospel and blues sass. In recent years, Laura has focused on creating and performing in ways that feel authentic and connected, sharing her original music with Queensland audiences and the musicians she loves working with. Whether onstage with her band, in intimate duo settings, or fronting community and school ensembles, she brings a signature blend of warmth, musicianship and emotional honesty to every performance.
The road that got this Brisbane‑based singer/songwriter here was anything but straight. She started out as a young thing singing classical music, before settling on the musical theatre stage for a while. She began a classical composition degree before deciding it was a much better idea to study Jazz singing. Laura somehow came out the other side of all this with an undeniable desire to make Soul music.
Her 2017 debut EP, The Start, revealed her new sound—described by Brisbane recording artist Sarah Collyer as “at once fresh and new, whilst also transporting the listener back in time.” Taking cues from artists like Sara Bareilles, Allen Stone, Bernhoft and John Mayer, Laura’s music is as likely to get you dancing as it is to melt you into a puddle of feelings.
In recent years, Laura has taken a step back from the majority of her gigging to welcome her son—a beautiful boy born in August 2023. After spending precious time with him, she has shifted her focus primarily to teaching piano and singing in schools, as well as directing both primary and high‑school choirs. Despite the change of pace, she has continued performing with her husband in their duo, Bird & Bear, and still jumps into band gigs whenever the moment calls.
LITTLE MOUNTAINS has continued to grow and evolve as Laura’s main collaborative project, featuring Luke Patrick on guitar, Aidan Arnold on bass and Steve Fischer on drums. After spending time writing, rehearsing and rebuilding momentum, the band is gearing up for a strong return in 2026. With new material taking shape and a renewed sense of direction, LITTLE MOUNTAINS are preparing to step back into the spotlight with fresh energy and a long‑awaited EP/album on the horizon.
