"Her sound is at once fresh and new, whilst also transporting the listener back in time..."
- Sarah Collyer, I Heart Songwriting Club reviewer
Guaranteed to get stuck in your head, Laura Mulcahy's music sits in the sweet spot between old-school soul
and heartfelt piano-driven songwriting—with a little gospel and blues sass. After taking a hiatus to sing on the ocean (aboard ships cruising up and down the West Coast of the USA), Laura landed back in Queensland, where she’s been out and about playing her own shows, as well as supporting local and interstate acts. 2018 included supporting Nomika (formerly His Merry Men)
on their Motion EP tour, The Steele Syndicate on their ‘Ours’ Launch Party Tour, and smashing out the successful launch of her new single ‘Give and Take’ at The Bearded Lady (West End).
The road that got this Brisbane based singer/songwriter here was anything but straight. She started out as a young thing singing classical music, before settling on the musical theatre stage for a while. She started a classical composition degree before deciding it was a much better idea to study Jazz singing. Laura somehow came out the other side of all this with an undeniable desire to make Soul music.
Her 2017 debut EP, The Start revealed her new sound, which, Brisbane recording artist Sarah Collyer described as "at once fresh and new, whilst also transporting the listener back in time”. Taking cues from artists like Sara Bareilles, Allen Stone, Bernhoft and John Mayer, Laura’s music is as likely to get you dancing as it is to melt you into a puddle of feelings.
2019 saw the launch of Laura Mulcahy & Friends, Laura's new collaborative, band-focussed project with guitarist Luke Patrick, bassist Aidan Arnold and drummer Steve Fischer. It’s an evolution of Laura’s signature playful and soulful sounds, with a little extra punch, and a whole set of new tunes.
